Lonely Diner

Lonely Diner, originally uploaded by margotwood.

This shot was taken at my very favorite old school diner in Chinatown, Cup & Saucer. It's small and a little dingy, but seriously- every time I step inside, I feel like I'm in NYC in the 70s.

Post Process: Lightened up the red tones, added slight vignette, increased sharpness slightly.

  1. Margot, I ADORE this photo. You've got some really nice, subtle leading lines going too. :)

  2. Very nice composition here. I've always meant to ask what sort of lighting you use.

  3. I don't use any lighting. This is all natural lighting. All I do is tweak the settings in "P" mode on my camera. I lower the exposure so you don't get that harshness and then I just tweak it from there in Photoshop.

I don't know jack about lighting, so 99.9% of all my photos use natural lighting. Hope this helps!
